The one in my M725 is a bit flaky, hard to move levers and lights works intermittently.
Have not really looked at it yet, can they be opened up and reconditioned or should I just look to replace it?

They can be opened...work carefully from the rearand you can get the insides out...dont know of anyone who sells anything for them parts wise and it is easy to get "which lever goes where and how" messed up.
If you have the skill and talent to fix one, please document t for us...I have never heard of anyone doing so, M715 Zone or otherwise in the military vehicle world.
I tried it one time to see if it could be cleaned up and it was as you say very easy to get the internal parts misconfigured. It ended up being for not, because I got it back together but the first turn broke off one of the internals so I got a different one. Probably tossed the old one.
Best bet, if it doesn't work buy another that does, save yourself the trouble, and I don't say that much.
They are not the expensive just toss it and get another one.
