Quick question. I found a 1968 dodge w100 with a 318 and a NP435 tranny for cheap. How would this work out for an engine and tranny swap for my M715?

I will be dropping in the same engine/tranny into my M-725. The 725's body is different, but other than that it is the same as the 715. As far as I can tell, with a little bit of engine/tranny mount fabrication, and some other little things, it should fit in there just fine.
Between me and my dad, we have a 72 Dodge with 318 and 3-speed auto, a 73 Dodge with 360 and NP435, and a 76 Dodge with 318 and NP435 (this is the one I'll be pulling the engine out of). Personally, I like these engines, although the 360 certainly has more grunt than the 318.
Are you planning on rebuilding this 318?

Possibly, I also have a 360 that I pulled out of a 84 wagoneer that ran great.
I've had both in different vehicles. As hard as I tried, mostly through neglect, I could not kill that 318. I ran it almost dry on oil a couple of times, didn't tune it up for years, ran it without an air filter for 6 months etc, etc. You do dumb things when your 17. But anyway it has to be one of the most bulletproof engines I've ever owned.
As for the 360, had several in Ram trucks over the years and I've got to say that for them...I'm a big fan. Don't know about swapping but I'll bet you could make it fit. I think it would be a good engine to have in this size truck.
Thanks, sounds like the $200 for the '68 dodge is worth it for this swap.
The 360 you have out of the wagoneer will not work with the dodge bellhousing and trans, its AMC 360.
ok, If I wanted to use that AMC 360 what would be the best tranny to use and still use the stock transfer case.
If you were going to use the AMC 360 use a t-18 or put the input shaft and carrier bearings from a t-18 into your t-98 and bolt it up with a AMC Bellhousing.
I agree with Fisherman. And I'd be in the market next for a divorced NP205 transfer case to replace the stock one.
