    Default 4L80E full manual shift

I picked up a 3/4 ton '92 'burb 454 4L80E with 4 inches of ProComp lift, 315's, a 14 bolt and some various other goodies last week. It's a nice truck BUT for the price I paid I think I am going to do bad things to it. Specifically, the lift and rolling stock will look good in the diesel(which still isn't running) while the drivetrain will power the 715 nicely. The body will look good getting squeezed in the crusher...

OK, I can get a 4bbl intake (Wieand) for $140, so that's the end of the engine comp. But I can't find out much about changing the 4L80E to full manual shift. It SHOULD be just a valve body kit and a line modulator? I've found what I think are the kits for sale but there's precious little info beyond the sales blurb. Has anyone here done this kind of mod? Is there some detailed data online? Or is this new enough that I am on my own?

I could keep the fuel injection and electronics on the trans since I've got all the parts, obviously, but I really do NOT want any electronics on this truck. Except, maybe, HEI ignition...which raises another question, will the old HEI...or points...distributors still work in the '92 motor?

The engines generally don't care if they're carbed or fuel injected. As far as I know, the older distributors will work fine, provided there's still a gear on the cam to turn it. I know some of the really new stuff uses electronic cam sensors to fire the dist, but I think a '92 should still have the gears.

I'm just the opposite, i'm going from carburated to fuelie on my trucks for the increased mileage and driveability. I'm tired of driving to Colorado and then just bogging down in the thin air.

I don't believe there will be any fuel consumption differences worth mentioning with a 454 once I've worked my carb and ignition magic on it. I finally popped the hood today and actually looked and it still has a distributor(thought it did) so I am guessing the shaft is the same as the last 30 years.

The silence regarding the trans is making think I may be on my own on this... Man, I guess I'll start making phone calls, since I'd hate to get the truck ripped apart and THEN discover the mods have to be done by a shop for a Grand or so.

Been there, done that. They are pretty specific about their tranny but not about the kit. Other sites have said they don't think it fully elliminates the electronics while the kit in some places is listed as a valvebody mod and in others as "installed during complete rebuild". I guess I am going to do what I hate today; use the stinking telephone.
