Thread: Battery Box Lid

    Default Battery Box Lid

I was just checking out the top storage information and it appears that my battery box lid is installed incorrectly... mine is level or flat on top and the illustration has it inclined.

I think I'll leave mine as is (convenient that way) but does it fit either way or has mine been modified?

Most trucks have the box flat. I have only seen the inclined version on '67 trucks. FWIW, my toy cast-steel M715 has the inclined battery box.

The battery box is flat or inclined depending on which way the 2 pieces are put together...same pieces put together backward make the other style.

The early trucks, especially the preproduction test models, all have the slant type...pics in the Project Manager manual that came out before the production trucks all show it. I dont know when it changed.

the box top is to be mounted at the angle, the purpose of it being reversible was to accomodate the larger batterys required when stationed at artic posts. The standard 2HN's were replaced with the much larger 4HN's which needed the extra space given by mounting the top on the square. ( see manual for details of equipping for artic) alot of people found the square mounting provided useful table in the cab an so switched them. i often hit my elbow on it so i went back to angle.
