Thread: Fuel Tank Renu vs. Remanufacture

Question Fuel Tank Renu vs. Remanufacture

I don't know if I should put this in stock tech or here. My fuel tank is at the end of it's life. I need to replace it. I am debating whether to have a custom shop build me a new one out of aluminum or sending the old tank out to get coated. Gas Tank Renu does the coating and so does Vintage Power Wagons. The problem is the shipping costs, plus the repair costs will be near $600! Has anyone had a custom shop build a new replacement tank? What did it cost?

I really dont want to replace it with another tank because I don't want to modify it that far.

I used a skyline boat tank 26gal. The truck doesn't see much highway use, so I don't care about it being DOT approved. I think the tank was like 150.00 or so.

600 clams!? Sounds a bit steep. Was that for cleaning and repair?

Gas Tank Renu is a nation wide company. Lifetime warranty. They install a brass I.D. tag on the tank to facillitate that.

I had one done several years ago, with some seam repair. IIRC, it was about 250 bucks. Great work, but a fab shop can build you a bang-up unit for 600 dollars. Less, probably. Then you'd have money for a high zoot sending unit, and plumbing.

There is a guy on ebay who custom makes fuel tanks/cells cheap - I believe he is out of Florida. He'll make you anything you want - size, plastic, aluminum, etc. He even has senders....and the prices were in the $100-$300 range. He had alot of buy it now tanks as well in a variety of sizes...do a search!

I'll check around a little bit more, but I think I am leaning to the Gas Tank Renu people. I hate to spend that much on any repair, but I guess I should be used to it with everything else I've done on the M715.

I'm going to use a FSJ truck tank. The neck will need to be altered, so a muffler shop is going to stretch and open a piece of exhaust pipe to connect my pipe to the filler hose.

Your Post Has Been A While ( I Took & Had My Tank Dipped With The Acid When I Got It Back It Was Clean But I Noticed Pin Holes In The Bottom I Then Coated The Tank With Pour 15 Tank Sealer & It Sealed The Pin Holes You Could Leave Off The Dipping & Use The Entire Pour 15 System With Marine Clean- Acid - Sealer And You Would Have Less Than 60 Dollars Less Your Time
