Thread: Brakes?

    Default Brakes?

The brakes on my M-715 are a mess. They have a power boaster but is not hooked up. This thing does not stop well at all! You have to be really hard in the brakes just to slow it a little. So I think its time for a change. Do you all have any ideas? It has a lift and 44's with a 350.

First thing is hook up the booster . Whether it's a vaccum or hydraboost unit , you need it hooked up . Without either the pedal will take alot of force to apply brakes . From there , make sure brakes are in good shape ,adjusted and bled , truck should stop .I have a 66 Chevelle with a single manual master and drums all around . It stops with no problem on the street and even with back to back 1/4 mile runs. Though I have been wanting to upgrade to 4 wheel disk for the last 10 years,it does stop good .The 725 has hydraboost ,rear drum ,front disk , it stops better than the wifes new vehicles .

I second that, hook up your brake booster. They don't work well if not hooked up. Ever step on the brake pedal of a newer car when it's turned off? You get 1-2 good pumps and then it's all downhill (sometimes for real!) from there.

Good shoes and proper adjustment go a LONG way. Remember, the stock brakes are NOT self adjusting. You have to do it yourself. If they are out of adjustment, it makes a BIG difference.

I finally got my system working with a power brake booster and it could lock up all 4 tires on pavement. That said, I didn't like the long pedal travel. Thus, I have front disc brakes pending.
