Default ? on parts for turtle....

    ok fellas,
mr. turtle (M715), is about to go to surgery in the next couple of months. to be added to his figure will be a rear and front locker, with the addition of locking hubs. question is, who has any of these parts available and have any of you added them to your ride? would like to get them in the next couple of weeks so that surgery can be performed, testing of the parts (road test that is) and then showing them off (offroad test) by early or mid spring. i believe the part #'s are in the manuals but i really need to know where and who to get them from. thanks in advance....

Hey Soupy, Big Wheel Bob has the hubs for a good price - I think $230/set or so. I'm sure he'll be along shortly.

Yep, BigWheelBob on the locking hubs.
The lockers...call Reider Racing. They have them and they know what an M715 is....more info here:

    Front axle: http://m715zone.com/vb/showthread.ph...ghlight=locker
From Reider Racing: Dana 60 30 SPL LOCK-RIGHT Item #60D/LKR30

    Rear axle:

    Dana 70 rear

    #1 option. Detroit "no spin"
The part # for the Detroit Dana 70 no-spin is: DET225S-14
    Where can you get one?

    Randys Ring and Pinion http://www.ringpinion.com/
    Reider Racing http://www.reiderracing.com/home.htm

    Installation:
First off, read the directions provided with your locker.
    http://www.m715zone.com/vb/view.php?pg=locker_manual
This is a lunch box style locker, you do not have to remove the ring gear from the carrier. You simply remove the spider gears and replace them with the locker. Spider gear shims, or spacers are also removed and NOT reinstalled. A case spreader is NOT needed to remove the carrier from the case.

Expect to spend no more than 3 hours to complete this project. This includes cleaning, inspecting parts, and installing. In reality, you may be done long before the three hours are up....all depends on how well prepared you are.

    Torque Specs:
35 to 55 on the case halves....

The bearing caps call for 100-120 in the military manuals.
Civy manuals say 80 to 108.

My bolts stretched when I was at app 110. Not cool. I replaced them with (4) grade 8..... 1/2" by 16TPI 2 3/8 long IIRC.
I suggest you do the same also. Talked to many others that have had the same results.

    I would recommend 90 to 100.......NO MORE!!!

what's the difference between a power lock and a regular front locker? is either one better than the other? just don't want to get stuck when i go out and play.

if either front or rear start to give me trouble, such as breaking because they can't handle the power of the amc 360 , just kidding.... i have a hookup on a set of rockwells. then i know the stuff won't break under such great power .....

    1/2 UNC is 13 tpi
    1/2 UNF is 20 tpi

While Machinerys Handbook does list a 1/2-16, I'm thinking not.

Since castings respond best to coarse threads, I'll guess 1/2-13, however I can't be positive.
