Thread: 401 with divorced 205?

    Question 401 with divorced 205?

Came across a great deal on a sweet 401 with Edelbroc intake and carb. I could drop it in one of my other Jeep projects but the 715 does not have an engine yet, so...

I can also get a divorced 205 for small change.

I want an automatic transmission in mine so I am thinking an AMC TH400 would be the simplist way to go and stay divorced (GM TH400/205'a are expensive).

Am I right? Are there other options I should look at? Pros & cons of this combo? Anyone running this combo?

    You are correct.

You can get a GM 32spl tailshaft and tailhousing and convert to 2wd.

Do I need to move the engine forward to allow room for the longer automatic? Also, will the stock Jeep V8 motor mounts from a late 70's truck work on these frames or do I need earlier mounts?

Sorry for so many questions but I am not familiar with M715 frames, drivetrains, or divirced transfer cases. I do like the idea of keeping it AMC, even re-thinking axle swap now that I hear the stock axles can be converted to 8 lug using some early Dodge stuff.

Has anyone done a write-up on an AMC drivetrain swap or GM/TH400/divorced swap? It would keep me from asking so many questions. With the switch back to the old/new board I have found the search function difficult.

What? I didn't realize that AMC made early Dodge stuff.
