Thread: Security System

    Default Security System

What is everyone doing for a security system or locks for your 715?

I was thinking about getting a wagoneer door and transplanting the square window and front corner window like what has been done before. Speaking of that, does anybody have the link to that writeup that a 715 owner did on using the wagoneer doors?

What do you guys think of a car alarm? I know this sounds stupid, but fairly soon I will have several thousand dollars worth of equipment in the cab, and I'm just paranoid anyway, lol. Anyone know about different types of alarms, think they would be effective? I thought hooking the alarm up to an air horn would make an intruder run away, and let me know, lol.

Let me hear what you think, and any other ideas.

If it weren't illegal, I'd electrify the doors and use a remote to activate. Come to think of it, you could do that with an electric cattle fence setup - not enough to kill them, but certainly enough to dissuade them.

Battery cut-offs are also popular to prevent drive-offs.

Brandon, if you need a set of civilian doors I can probably help out, think I've got 3 pairs now.

If you're using a soft top, the door locks won't deter all. I've had my one Jeep accessed through the top in the past. Now I just leave the doors and console unlocked, as I also had to replace a damaged console.

A Jobox mounted in the bed works best for loose items. What are you installing in the cab...stereo equipment or something?

To protect the truck, a chain and padlock between the steering wheel and seat. Bicylce cables are perfect for this if yours doesn't already have a chain welded to the seat like mine did.

Stuff inside is fair game unless you build a locking center console or something.

You can also drill out the tabs the underbed storage locker doors latch to. I did that to mine and have a pad lock on both doors now.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

I have a hardtop right now, along with a locking box in the bed. What "worries" me is all the equipment I'll have in the cab. Granted my 715 is not my daily driver, but I will drive it now and then. Between my CB, Low Band, Ham, UHF, and 2 VHF radios, possible hand held inside, GPS, Laptop now and then, thats a lot of stuff inside. I am working on building a custom center console to house most of my radios. Trying to figure out how to incorporate some sort of locking top plate simply to deter people.

I will be getting some civvy doors from Fisherman soon. That will be a good help, to at least lock my doors.

German Shepard works very very well and it's away a good laugh when some unknowing person walks up to the truck.

Check out Tuffy's center consoles. They're a bit more pricey than the SprawlMart specials, but they ARE made of steel. Look pretty stout to me. If I had stuff worth stealing in my truck, I'd put it in a Tuffy box.

RE your civvy doors, clean and re-lube your door lock mechanisms and they will work like new.

Also, a guy on the ifsja.org board is selling replacement springs. If the door lock acts like it needs Viagra, the replacement spring will solve the problem.
