Default Bob Cowan's power steering pics

Bob sent me these pictures showing how he mounts the power steering box, using the 4th mounting point for the extra strength it offers.

Yep, that's the way to do it. I was kind of expecting 1/2" plated mounts though.

Are you using a spacer between the PS unit and feame?

My guess would be a piece of DOM through the frame, but the pic just doesnt' have it welded up yet. ???

I'm pretty sure he sleaved it, just forgot or not had time to weld it. I sleaved mine the same, and yes fully welded it. No spacer one sleave all the way thru the frame. There are 3 thickness of metal to drill or in my case plasma and torche through. I think this is the best way of utilizing the fourth bolt on the power steering boxes.

i used sch 80 pipe, all grade 8 bolts & washers . located the hole with a transfer punch. the sleeve ( pipe ) in pic,s isnt welded yet . the design is basicly the same as the bottom stock mounting point except more h/d , you know me !!!!!! also note the hydro steer fittings in the box . tim might post some pic,s of the hydro assist ram mounted if we,all ask him nicely. KEEP THE TOLERENCES AS TIGHT AS YOU CAN for more strength......
    thanks again tim

is this the setup you was talking about adding to the 3/4 ton gearbox and how well does it work in regards to ease of turning a heavy, big tired and lifted truck with the ram assist added?

Talked to Spicer. He said that, using his wimpy Rocklogic assist ram , he is able to turn locked Rockwells w/46" Michelins without any trouble. Without, he can't.

YES this is part of my steering setup. i guess tim hasnt had time to post my hydro cylinder mount setup yet . its a h/d setup to match the quality of the truck. there is a difference between the fsj box and 3/4-1 ton box by alot. same with the other brands of cylinders as compared to the one i chose to use in my opinion. but like noses we all got one . i kinow i over do everything like my wheels. yes i hire the welding done but its because the robot does such a nice job far better than a man can. but thats all i contract out. everything else i DO . for my hydro mount tabs etc. i made the patterns ( templates ) and had the lazer jet guy mass produce them for me so i could keep cost down. he can cut 2 dozen as fast as i can make 2 and the quality is superb.
i enjoy maxing out this truck in my mods, its my hobby and relaxes me to do this stuff . i dont do this for a business but its just as easy to make several sets of stuff as 1 set . the bugger is in the design and testing before you offer it to anyone . my cylinders are chosen for there quality for safetys sake ,cycle life, being able to grease them, dust boots top & bottom on the heims ,capacity, rebuildability ( even on the trail ) and compatitability with the other components its going to be working with. its all got to be matched.
