Default Slightly different power steering conversion question

Evenin fellas, Ive done a fair bit of searching and I may be mixing myself up here, or I simply don't read so good (both are solid possibilities these days). Anyhow, I have an 85 CJ7 motor in my m715 (OO installed) and I recently noticed the stock m715 steering box has sprung a leak. I started looking into rebuilds and then replacements, which lead me down the power steering path. I have found on here where some of you fellas did power steering conversions with the tornado, but I didnt see anything with my specific motor.

Can anyone point me in the direction of that kind of info? Which power steering pump to go with, which steering box, belt and what not. Thanks in advance!

What motor exactly is it? 258? 304? Need to know this. You will need the brackets for that motor. Then probably rock auto for the pump and possibly the box. But I would try to find a saginaw box with the 7 and 6 on it. The 7 is above the 6, not this way --->76 and there were different ratio's.

I didn't have to install mine because my truck came with power steering. But as I recall (this has been YEARS, like 2 crashed forum boards ago) all the old conversations using older J truck or wagoneer power steering units and steering boxes. A ton of them were welded to the frames because the M7** trucks only had 2 of the needed bolt holes pretapped in the frame. On my extra frame, the steering box is clearly welded onto the frame. I can't remember on my current frame. There may be some info in the old archives, I put the links below if you haven't looked through those.

Oh, ok sorry about that. Mine is a 258. Saginaw, 7 over 6, im not entirely sure what that means, but I'll do some googling.

I was kind of cryptic sorry.. So PS boxes come in all flavors. If you look at the side of the pS box, cast into the body of it you will see the 7 above the 6. Like it was cast up above it. It is just a raised casting that is plain to see is a number. There was an 8 and 3 and so on. I can't remember why the 76 series box was better but it is. Something about the internals and I believe a casting that was stronger than most.
Well I went and looked at my truck and I could see the numbers up near the front end of the box. Like this..

Look up redhead steering boxes. If you are filthy rich you could even buy one from them. They might have better information.

Thanks for clarifying! I shot them a message to see what they offer.

Wow.... they want $496 bucks to rebuild my stock one. I dunno about that.... I may look into a power steering setup from an older wagoneer/j series or something. I guess if I do that, then I'd just need to get the proper belt that works with my jeep 258 motor?
