Thread: oil question.

  1. #1

    Default oil question.

I know this has been covered elsewhere but searching with the word "oil" gets me too many unrelated replies to navigate. Sooo...
I am planning to change the oil on my 1969 M715 and am asking for suggestions/thoughts on the best kind and weight of oil to use. Or any other morsels of wisdom you care to share.
Thanks in advance for your help.

It will come down to opinions more than anything else. The Technical Manual list out what Kaiser said to use for weight based on your temperature range.

My opinion is to use Synthetic Diesel oil since the truck probably won't get driven that much, synthetics don't loose their additives with time and diesel oil has anti friction ingredients that are good for old gasoline engines. However, those additives are not available right now and finding diesel oil is just about impossible.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

As do I but I didn't want to do that much of a sales pitch for them.

you just want use oil that still has sulfur in it. The synthetic oil mentioned above usually works fine. Newer motor oils for gas engines don't have the sulfur that you need for older motors like ours.
