    Default Turn signal switch help

So, my old switch rotted away and I bought what I thought was an identical one off of ebay. It's close, but slightly different.

I can't for the life of me figure out which wire should go where. I have the diagram for both-can someone point me in the right direction?

I verified my distribution box matches this one:

And this matches the switch I have:

I'd prefer to not let the magic smoke out.

Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks,

    Dave

Are you running 24v or 12v as the old style distribution box will only run on 24v. The newer solid state system will work on either 24v or 12v but you must have both pieces. (switch and box)

I asked because the diagram for the switch you showed is for a 12v one. Try posting pics of the unit you have and that should help us figure out what you need.

Sure! Just from your comments I get the sneaking suspicion I've bought the wrong switch.

Doesnt look like the original Sparton switch on the M715...maybe the wires could be figured out and still work but not sure...

    I think I count 7 wires?

Yes, seven wires. My original was 6, but it rotted away.

Near as I can tell, the part numbers on the back of both switches matched, but apparently the switches don't.

Is the easy answer find a different switch/go solid state?

    I appreciate all the help.

I am wondering if you can make it work...if you can figure out which wire does what, you have a chance...

On the original switch, there are 6 wires running to the distribution box as follows:

wire #1 is power into the turn signal switch...connects to post A,E on the lower left of the distribution box.

wire #2 is the ground for the turn signal switch...goes to post B on the upper right of the distribution box.

wire #3 is hot on right turns, so the right turn signal signal...goes to post C, 4th post down on the left row.

wire #4 is hot on left or right turns. This is the power that energizes the relays that cause the flash on turns when right or left is selected...goes to post D, 3rd post down on left row.

wire #5 is hot on left turns, so the left turn signal signal...goes to post F, top post on the left row.

wire #6 is hot on left or right turn. This is the feedback from the relays in the distribution box to the turn signal to flash the indicator light on the turn signal switch to show it is on...goes to post G, bottom post on the right row.

If you can play with power coming in from post A,E and see which wires when hooked up cause the right output conditions on the lights, you can make it work...although I dont know what the extra wire is for...

Here is what sure looks like an original one on Ebay:

I will say, I converted to the solid state setup and it was an easy and nice install...I documented the swap here:

Be interested in seeing what you do here...glad to help, just keep with it, it'll solve somehow...

I think I'm going to go with the solid state setup. Before I buy more parts I don't need, do these look about right to y'all?

No you need the wiring harness that goes between the switch and the flasher, not just the connector.
