Default Fluid Change Suggestions / Recommendations

    Dear Fellow Zoners,

Taking a break from the front-end body work and want to do a fluid change this weekend.

What is the recommended oil(s) for the trans and transfer case?

Also do you any of you folks use Synthetic oils? I have used Amsoil for years on my other vehicles with great success. When I changed the trans and transfer oils in my Unimogs with Amsoil they shifted much smoother and were much quieter and never had a seal problem either.

    Comments? Thanks!
    Joe S.

I agree with Bob. I haven't used Amsoil on my own stuff yet, but I know people who have and really like it. I have Mobile1 synthetic in the axles and T-case on mine right now. Works great. It didn't help with the t-case heat above 50 mph, but then again. Some t-cases just won't work at high speed no matter what you lubricate it with.

Some people have had leaks develop when they changed over to synthetic lubricants. That is common on used parts and should be anticipated. I didn't have that happen to me though.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

For those who have heat issues with the tcase....a couple members have overfilld the case with an extra quart or more....jack up the drivers side or park on a steep sidehill....they also used Red Line Shock Proof 140W-250...tcase still gets hot but doesnt overheat...

The manual claims the same spec for the Tcase and the trans...I run the same weight synthetic in both, 75W90, and dont have problems...even in this northern climate.
