Thread: Winch Cable attachment to drum

  1. #1

Default Winch Cable attachment to drum

I got a used Warn winch. The eyelet (like electrical terminal) where it attaches to the drum is torn up (eye ripped open).

What's the best way to replace this? Can you use a heavy electrical ring terminal (that's all this looks like, in copper)?

    Thanks,

Can you weld it back shut? Maybe find a supply co. that handles lifting supplies? You shouldn't need it for anything other than holding the cable to start it on the drum right? .02.

D.P., got any pics? If its made of copper, you should be able to fix it.

On my warn 12,000 winch, I had the same problem. I found some small tube that just fit over the winch cable, then welded it the the cable. Then I cut off about 1 1/2 past the end of the cable off, and smashed it in a vise, and drilled a hole for the bolt. Worked wonderfully.

Why are you guys making this so complicated? Go buy a lug end for a battery cable, crimp it on and go. The end does NOT serve any purpose other than to help you start to spool the cable.

Provided the winch is being used by someone who doesn't think all he needs is a wrap or two on the drum!

No, Chris, I just got the one that trip, still have you in mind, though. I got a good one, the remainders were not in good shape, even for that $$. He is getting more in soon, and is supposed to call me. I'll let you know when I hear from him....i'll probably pick up a few myself for trading stock.
