Thread: Brake Shoe Hold-Down Update

    Default Brake Shoe Hold-Down Update

As some of you know, I lost the hold-down pin and ruined the spring clip on one of my brakes.

A LOUD squeal was emanating from one of my back brakes, so I took them apart in turn, and found this:

No pin, and what was left of the clip was tumbling around inside the drum.

Turns out, the clip is NLA, so this is what I figured out: the pin is available at NAPA, #80708. Then you need this from Redneck Trailer Parts:

You'll need a 1/4" socket that snugly fits the recess in the spring cup, and an extension of sufficient length to use as a handle (mine is 6", I think).

Push the pin through the backing plate and the brake shoe. Orient the slot in the spring cup with the end of the pin, hold the other end of the pin to the backing plate, and push on your socket extension until the pin end is through the slot in the cup. Turn the pin 90 degrees, release the cup & you're done.

    The result:

    Back on the road.
