There must be some jerry cans available that are worth having. Any ideas? Most of the ww2 stuff I have has rust holes I have one modern made in USA red can that is good, but I have had it so long can't remember where i got it.

The European ones (NATO, French, German, are the ones I have used, owned), work really well: they don't leak, and you can pour directly from them without a spout into a mower, and I would think a 715. I have it on good authority that the M37 gas can holder will fit them, but I can't vouch for the M715 stock Jerry can holder, since I don't own one.
I'll never use one of those leaky GI cans again-- they're a fire waiting to happen, in my experience.
2nd on the Nato style gas cans. It's all I use for transporting fuel. They don't leak and pour easily. And they fit the M715 perfectly.
Look for surplus cans. The civvy-made wedco cans don't use as heavy a gauge of steel.
The 5 gallon military Jerry cans are not all that hard to locate. I attend a lot of military shows and even gun shows have them. I'm sure ebay has their share, but shipping usually makes them not worth it.

I have a 1953 can and two 1984 cans. The 1984 cans were purchased NOS about 5-7 years ago and they are essentially the same as they were in 1953. One thing about new cans... they don't have rust! New cans can be painted the original color, over the more modern green (what's it called, something like forest green?).
Always NOS and used cans at the truck shows. They are not in short supply.

thanks guys, I need to get out of the shop more.
I have a whole bunch of jerry cans, I have a couple ww2 dated ones, and a whole bunch of Korean war era ones. The hardest can I ever had to look for was a Vietnam era dated one. I finally found a 67 dated one with original paint at a military show a couple years ago, but it seems they are the hardest to find
