    Default Windshield cowl grille- why?

Ok, maybe a dumb question, but why is this here? I don't really need to carry around 15lbs of pine needles and a dead mouse or two, so I'm thinking of capping it with silicone and sheetmetal, then putting the grille back on to make it pretty....

My truck has been thoroughly molested (Chevy firewall!), so maybe there used to be air vents or something there?

    Not even close to mine

Also, it is a carryover from the civvy trucks as a fresh air intake and a big cavity for the wiper arms and motor to live...so its still a air intake but all the wiper stuff that took up alot of room there disappeared from the mil version and the cost of redesigning it would have added to the price so it was just left.
