Our (completely stock) 715 won't shut off properly; it diesels something awful. Timing's set to 5 degrees. Thoughts?

I had no idea that these low compression engines could "diesel". I would check the ignition switch, maybe it's still allowing some voltage to get to the coil.
The 230 does that often. Not trying to be insulting, but are you sure the timing is set at 5°? If so, then what is your idle at. Slow it down just a tad and the problem should go away.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

Mine does it too occasionally. Especially if it hasn't been driven much. In periods where i drive it a lot, it rarely does it. Not sure if its caused by a build-up issue or not. Guess its just one more of the quirks.

Hey, what's this do?
Check for vacuum leaks. Mine does it when the vacuum hose to the windshield wiper switch comes off. Note that I have a regular fuel pump and not the std m715 pump with the separate vacuum pump. But leaking hoses can cause it to diesel.
