Thread: Cannon plug pin tool size

  1. #1

Default Cannon plug pin tool size

I have researched various threads concerning stock wiring and the cannon plug on the 3-lever switch. People have discussed removing the pins with a special tool. I do not believe I have seen mentioned the actual size (pin size) for the tool. Can someone help with that?

My m715 wiring is a real mess. It works but some (very little) of the original wiring is present with a bunch of Bubba engineered wiring. I wish to reuse the stock light switch once again. Ultimately I would like to rewire the entire truck. Thanks for the info.

While I can't answer your question, I will say that in my truck, most of the wires were there. However, the exposed wire was often brittle and cracked from age. If you go back under the plastic wrap, you will often find nice flexible wire that you can splice to. I might suggest using solder and heat shrink and then just wrap the wire again. Note that the plastic wrap is not plastic tape. It has no adhesive. Adhesive will make the bundle stiff and unable to bend.

    Here is the right stuff:

I have a few rolls that my Dad got when he worked at the Glenn L. Martin Co. in Middle River, MD back in the 40/50/60s. It will make very professional results. Most of that wire already under the wrap is in good condition. And, you can repair areas that have become unwrapped.

    Just my 2¢ though...

Do a search "electrical connector insertion removal tools" and you will see many options. Pick digi-key if you want. You want the "amphenol" series or just search for a "91067-2 insert tool". Its a cheap one but should work for what you want to do.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately on the wires most are cut right at the plug body. I will take a look at the tool.
