Thread: what have i done?

    Default what have i done?

Replaced the leaking oil hose at the rear of the engine and while I had the valve cover off adjusted the valve lash. Now the engine makes a loud clicking sound. I made the mistake of starting it with the valve cover removed not realizing the cover held the rockers in place. A few of the rockers jumped off of the valves. Do you suppose something got messed up?

Wow ouch. What I would do is start trouble shooting by pulling the plugs and rolling the engine over by hand. make sure everything turns as it should with no interference. make sure you chaulk you wheels ( I don`t trust E-brake) and put it in neutral Before turning over by hand. Look and listen while turning maybe you see or hear where clicking is coming from.

I`m sure someone else here will chime in sometime soon.

That should not be. You adjust with the engine warmed up and running and using a splash shield at the timing chain sprocket. Valve cover does not hold the rockers in place.
