    That's great, I guess the see through valve covers never worked out.

    Wow...that is a fantastic article...more info there on the design and reasons for it than any oher source i have ever seen...THANK YOU for posting this...that really gives me food for thought.

    and people say the engine is problem prone and junk. clearly there all wrong in this train of thought as even the newest of engines cant do what our 230 does. 2 carbs and more cam will make this almost 1hp per cubic inch.

    To me, it explains why this engine was revived for the '715. Low RPM and high torque. Also explains why the military blew so many engines, troops winding them up beyond spec. (Don C!!!) I wonder why they chose to re-engineer the water pump and a few other items. Maybe those items were failure prone in the early engines?

    Did the short stroke engine ever get built?

    the m715 water pump has always been the same. there is a difference between civy an mil though

    So if I am reading this right ,we should be calling the "230" a " HEMI" and not an anchor?

    You guys may not believe me but on my truck in Germany, in 1970, I had stencilled "HEMI 230" on the fenders in the area betweek the door and wheel opening. It was not appreciated by the NCO's and I was told to remove it. I did comply. I only wish I had taken a picture of the fender. Also, my buddies said "No way it's a HEMI!" Whatever...
