Has anyone ever swapped in a Vigilante 327 V8? Just wondering.

Not worth it. I had one in a 67 wag. Lots of torq but finding parts for one is just as hard as the 230, if not harder.

You could do it easy enough, as they came in full size trucks and wagoneers for a couple of years, its just an oddball. You might have a hard time finding parts, and pay a premium. Probably be better off going with something newer and easier to get parts for. Lots of other options. If I had one and it was known for sure to be a good engine I probably wouldn't have a problem putting it in. After all I'm going with a Buick 350.

Would the bellhousing pattern be the same?

Good question, don't know.

There is only 1 engine on Earth besides the 230 that shares the same bellhousing pattern...that is the older 226 flat head 6 cylinder.
Other than that NOTHING will bolt up without adapters.

Have one in mine that the FD installed.
The bell housing I assume came with the engine and bolted to the T98
However a longer input shaft was needed fo the tranny.
they sold off the truck for that reason.
The only reason I like it it that it is the v8 that comes from the same year civilian truck.
Other than that parts are a pain!
When it goes I'll put the 360 from my CJ in it

I did a little research on the engine and AMC made 3 versions, the 250, 287 and 327 from 1956 to 1968. But Jeep had them only from 1965 to 1968. One would think that you could find parts but I guess not. Just for kicks and screams, how hard would it be to swap in one? would the motor mounts be similar or totaly differnt?

The motor mounts on a M715 look the same as the ones that were on the '67 wag I had. without having them side by side it is hard to say. But I am thinking it should drop right in.
