Thread: Military Unit Applied Stenciled Markings Compilation

Default Military Unit Applied Stenciled Markings Compilation

Here is a place for everyone to contribute stenciled info, that was added by military units.
So, please post any pictures that you have for future reference.
Here is the only one that I found on my truck ,that wasn't permanently erased by yellow paint.

I'm saving this tidbit of the past, and applying fresh paint around it.
I think that it will help tie the truck to yesteryear.

Mine is void of any stencils but I did have a white paint marker writing on the radiator top that said "-40 3-72" which should mean 40 below antifreeze installed March 1972.

    Thanks for the great info!

This is the truck that I drove in Germany in 1970. You can see the fill line on the fuel fill rubber hose and the warning on the fender. Also, the tire pressure in flat black on the bed:

(Note: RWL on the tires was done by me in silver model paint. It was not SOP but no one fussed about it .)

And this is our unit marking on the same truck in white with the military number in flat black:

    Hey Don,
this is the first pic I see of a "DO NOT FILL ABOVE THIS LINE" on a 715.
    Thanks for the post.

National numbers were painted on the underside of the hood on my M-715.
This matched the ones found upon stripping the layers of paint on the sides of the outside of the hood.

Then there was this warning stenciled toward the bottom ( with hood up)

Figure someday may try to 'clean up' the underside so it doesn't look so ratty but preserve the Military added markings.

As well, the tailgate had the National numbers, however so faint I could not get a photo that affectively showed it.

I would just wash it and spray WD-40 on it liberally and be done with.

    That's pretty cool.
Just wondering, how a would a person secure the hood on an M715?
Hood to windshield tie down strap?

Broom stick (or if you were near the mess hall, you swiped a mop handle!)

It was a common motorpool add because most all of the other trucks in the motorpool did not have hoods that stayed in the raised position without locking it. I'm sure the commander said to paint that under the hood of every truck in the motorpool and the lowly private nodded his head and said Yes Sir. And every truck got it. If you have worked on a deuce, M38a1 or M37 and had the wind blows the hood down, you know why they wanted the hoods secured.
