Thread: Creation of a Behemoth

    Default Creation of a Behemoth

Well it's been just over a year since I started building my M715 and thought I should post up some pictures from the beginning.
I had a vision that I would just get a J-truck and put on some M715 front fenders and an M715 truck bed.
So, I found a 1969 J3000 with a pretty bad case of The Rust.
Pulled off the J-truck bed and started refinishing the frame and pulling all the garbage out of the cab to reveal how bad the rust really was.
I thought I would weld in some new floor boards, but really wasn't having any luck finding a pair of M715 fenders and bed.
Then a buddy pointed me to the location of a pretty complete M715 (minus engine, transmission, transfer case). I was able to get the whole deal for cheap, it had been sitting in the PO's yard for 5-8years.

Change in plan: Pull all of the body of the J-truck and transplant the M715 Front end, cab and bed.

Wrangler and the J-3000 at home in the garage.

The red color of the J-3000 hides the rust nicely.

Going to work. Truck bed off.

Rear Chassis nice and rusted. Dana 53 rear end, didn't know there was such a thing. For good reason not many were made.

Rear half of chassis ground free of rust and painted.

Found a fairly complete M715 on the cheap. No engine or transmission, but I really didn't want them anyway. Well, that not exactly right. There was an engine in the truck bed, but it looked like more work than the V8 buick that came with the J3000.
New plan: Put entire body of M715 on my j3000 frame/chassis.

I'm pretty sure the HOA wasn't thrilled with my curbside diamond in the rough, so I went to work pulling apart everything as fast as I could.

M715 Truck bed on the J3000

M715 cab in front of the J3000 for comparison. Looks like an easy swap.

Inside of bed refinished and painted.

Front end of J3000 removed. Yes there is an engine under the rats nest.
