Thread: Air Cleaner Assy Ports

    Default Air Cleaner Assy Ports

I've bought this air filter assembly and intend to attach it to a Carter YF carburetor on a Chevy 250. Problem is I have no idea what hoses attach to these five ports. I'm guessing number 4 is for the PCV valve. I suspect the fuel vent hose attaches to one of the smaller ports. Any ideas? I appreciate it.

Essentially, all of the other ports are the various vents for the fuel tank, master cylinder, axles etc. You don' have to cover any except for maybe #5 since it is inside of the air filter cartridge. #4 is the crankcase vent.

According to the -34 Manual, Page 290, upper right illustration:

    (Using your numbering)

    1. Master cylinder breather hose

    2. Powertrain breather hose

    3. Fuel pump breather hose

    4. Crankcase vent hose

Although I have looked I can't seem to find the #5 depicted anywhere. Perhaps someone else knows that one and will post it. I'd like to know too. It MAY be the connection for the fuel filler port tube that runs parallel to the fuel line, looks like that would make sense, since its "post filter" and would feed the fumes directly into the carb.

Somebody might want to double check that last one.

The vent hoses on my m715 are original yet. Your number 5 hose is the vent from the fuel pump. The number 3 is the vent from the ignitor assy. (Distributor). Mine may be wrong according to the book but I can't switch the two as one is shorter than the other.

Which setup, early or late? If your air cleaner sits on top of the carburetor, I don't know of a source for the large rubber hose. However if it is the one that is a canister, mounted to the hood (late version, 1969 or so) you do see them out there on the auction sites and try the usual vendors.
