Thread: Rear Shock length

  1. #1

    Default Rear Shock length

I am currently rebuilding a 715. Engine was blown when i got it, so i decided to replace the whole drivetrain. Went with a 350/sm456/205. had bought a set of axles out of a mid eighties military blazer, dana 60 in the front, but the 14 bolt corprate was to narrow. I put in a 14 bolt semi floater out of a one ton van. Bolted right up. Converted the rear to disc brakes. TSM manufacturing driveline brake. Power brakes and a hydraulic clutch. and a hellof alot of welding on the cab. Does anyone know the length of the rear shocks? Im trying to figure out if I need to move the shock mounts.

Not to hi-jack this thread but....nice choice on drivetrain, did one myself like that once. BTW, what ever happened to the stock components you took out?

I used some regular j truck shocks. They fit fine. Length seemed good.

Are you stock height or a spring over/shackle flip? I have some Rancho's I can look at the numbers on. I will have to dig them out. If you took the front end out of a military Blazer I don't think you have a Dana 60. Might want to double check but they should both be GM 10 bolts. I think they have 3:08 gears with a trac lok in the rear. Others around here would probably know better. The M1008's and M1028's (trucks) came with the Dana 60 and 14 Bolt and 4.56 gears.

The front axle is a dana 60. I bought the axles as a set. Also had the corparate 14 bolt for the rear. Unfortunaley i wasn't able to use it cause it was to narrow. They both had 4.10 gears in them.

I sold the drivetrain to a coworkers son for 250 bucks. I dont think there was anythin wrong with the trans, transfer case, or axles. Not sure what was wrong with engine. If your interested, I can see if he wants to sell them.
