For the record, in case anyone does a search for the answer and comes to this thread, here's the full answer:

You can set the system to automatically subscribe to all threads in which you submit a post. To do so, go to the User CP (User Control Panel) and in the "Settings and Options" section click on "Edit Options." Scroll down to the "Messaging and Notification" section and select the setting you prefer for the "Default Thread Subscription Mode" allowing you to receive e-mail notifications instantly, daily, weekly or no notifications at all. I suspect most set this to "Do not subscribe" (which is the system default) as I do because there's a second option that works much better for most people.

That other option is to subscribe to an individual thread at the time you submit your post. If you look below the "Submit Reply" and "Preview Post" buttons, you'll find the same "Thread Subscription" choices as in the User CP option above, only this time it will only apply to that particular thread. If you have an interest in the topic of a particular thread you're posting in and you don't want to risk missing a reply, this is a great way to do it. I use it any time I'm posting something in the For Sale forum, so I get an instant notification e-mail whenever someone replies to my post. Pretty handy.
