Thread: Civvie Carb w/ stock air cleaner

    I picked up a stock carb mounted air cleaner and tried to fit it on a civvie carb. It didn't work because the carb is too short. I want to run the stock the stock air cleaner so I can hook up the vent lines from the brakes, block etc.
    Has anyone done the same thing and if so how did they do it (spacer under carb or between carb and air cleaner)? Otherwise what did you do for the vent lines if you ran a different air cleaner.

    I use an aftermarket one but it had little knockout holes and fittings to go in them...so I hooked the hoses together and ran them to the 2 ports on the new air cleaner.....
    For yours, if the stock can will mount on the air cleaner neck.....I would use a spacer under the carb....wont hurt a thing...might help actually.....but slightly in power terms....

    My first choice would be a spacer of some sort. May be add a gutted govener to get the height.

    Would it be worth it to get a stock carb and put it back on the truck instead, or is the civvie carb better?

    You running a 1920 Holley or something different....the mil one is the 1920.....
    Spacer would be my choice for sure....gona need longer studs maybe.....

    I don't remember the model number of the top of my head, but if I remember correct it says 1920 or 1930. From looking at other pics and the manuals besides being shorter the only other visible difference is the fuel inlet comes out the side not the front like the Military 1920 Hollie.

    On my1969 I started with the Giant CanisterAir-Filter contraption and wanted to use the old original style air-filter housing. I used a spacer and it worked o.k., but the clearence between the hood and the air-filter was very close. I am now scraping that Idea and going to a civilian 2-barrel and tap the hoses in like Brute mentioned. I have a couple of spacers if you need.

    The civvie and military 230's do have a different fuel location...front vs side....other than that and the accelerator pump lever which is better on the civvy, metal, vs the mil, plastic, they are the same.
    Either would work as good as the other.

    I am going home tonight to measure how much I will need. If you have a spacer that you can part with it would be easier than me making one and I would appreciate it.
