Default Cummins upgrade & pictures from the weekend!

I was thinking about dropping a new motor and transmission in the M715, after this weekend. We hauled the truck down to Thompson GA from Marietta on a flat bed trailer and drove on around 100 miles of trails with 5-10 people in the back the whole time. Hell of fun, truck ran great, super smooth and a spectacular trail rig stock! However on the way back, my room mates CUCV that hauled the M715 down wouldnt start so we had to leave it there. This meant that I had to pull the 3000 lb trailer all the way back which was impossible. This truck will not pull at all in 4th gear and 3rd was screaming at me the whole way, all the while draining 2 qts of oil over 100 miles at about 30-40 mph flat out.

So to remedy this i was thinking about dropping a cummins in it with a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission. However, before i made any decisions i was hoping yall could help me out with picking a motor or simply steer me away from it.

I am considering dropping a 1994 or 1998 5.9l or 6.7l in the M715 to improve the HP and torque greatly but im not sure how much modification work it would take and if one is better for the truck than the other. Please let me know what yall think and any advice you can give on this kind of conversion or maybe on another motor all together that works well with the truck.

That's a good looking truck you have their. I run the same Michelen 1100's. Great tire. Your motor answers will be answered I'm sure. I have a stock 230ci Tornado still in mine. Enough power and speed for this old man, but I understand what your saying. Good luck.

The stock engine will never be a power house. However, a civilian intake and bigger carb, civilian distributor with vacuum advance and not wanting to go over 50 will make huge increases over what you have stock. A rear main seal that actually seals helps too.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.
