Default ford taurus fan reverse polarity

Does anyone have any experiance hooking up a 3.8 ford taurus 2 speed fan backwards?
We put the shroud on my truck last night but the temps kept creeping up while it was idling. We decided to hook up my fan straight to the battery to see if it brought the temps back down and it did . I " Think " I want to mount this fan in front of the radiator as a secondary pusher fan, turned on by a toggle switch while idling in traffic. We did hook it up backwards to see if it would run backwards and it did and still pushed alot of air. Will this ruin the Fan?
    Thanks, Andy

The motor doesn't care which way it turns. However, the blades are designed to turn one direction. It will still move air, but not a good as it did as a puller.

GM trucks had a helper push fan in the 1980's. Lots of import cars had pusher helper fans over the year as well.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

    Thanks Barrman.
I may try to find a fan that pulls less amps, maybe something in the 2500 cfm range.
