Thread: putting it back together

    Default putting it back together

So after reading every thread I could find and reading the maintenance manual (you guys are great) I pulled the head (head gasket) and brought the head to the local machine shop

head back from the shop, found warpage between 4 and 5 cylinders. and they shaved the head .004 which cleared the the warpage. I was nervous about the change due to some of the posts and dealing with timimg chain slop. The shop said they felt it would be fine due to the little they took off

    new valve job also

Looks good. I'm going through a 7.3 right now. Tearing down and rebuilding ain't so bad. Its all the cleaning and painting that is really time consuming and just ain't no fun. Especially an old diesel, they are dirty with baked on dirt and grease.

Droppped the heads of yesterday too. Hope they come back good.

Seems like all is going smoothly, and according to plan. Keep posting pics on your progress.

I do like the clean look of a freshly painted engine. Nice work.

    Default Safety Yellow

I like to paint my fan blades safety yellow after I sand them and clean them up. This reminds me (and others) to be careful where you put your hand when the engine is running. This color also helps to see the blade better when the engine is running. That's my 2₵.
