Thread: Head gasket ??

  1. #1

    Default Head gasket ??

So I had a major setback this weekend with what i am guessing as a blown head gasket. Over temp, low fluid levels, white smoke. When I got the plugs out # 5 cylinder was at about 75 psi and the rest at 148 + or - 2 lbs !! . Looked in oil fill cap and I have a chocolate milkshake. I searched for a good writeup on a head gasket replacement and thought I would ask if there are any good tips, tricks , words of wisdom, etc. I think I would like to keep the motor and have a tired but running spare. Probably will swap to something at a later date but have not found the right combination yet.

    Thanks

    Tony

Make sure you get the correct head gasket, the military 230 is different than the ones that come with the 230 kit you get at NAPA.

    Gasket sets

Gasket sets (different link than above)

I believe Surplus City Jeep parts have them, Memphis and VPW, too.

Just give everything a once-over while it is apart. If it ran before, with any luck a new head gasket and a check up, it probably will run again.
