    Default SM420/NP200 questions

I pulled the drive train last week, and found the trans was an sm420. But it was mated to the 200 in the 200s stock location. The output on the 420 is atleast A 1410, and they used the break on the 420 instead of the 200. Is/was this a common way to run A SBC? Or did whoever did this work put allot of thought into this swap?

i've never seen it done that way but looks like a good way to go. parts for the chevy trans mounted parking brake are still available....al
as far as a lot of thought...they likely used what they had or what was available for cheap.

Is it possible that is an NP205 transfer case?
It has a single linkage to the shift rails. The NP200 didn't do that, but maybe someone did that with the transmission swap.

The 420's with the parking brake were common in old school buses, dump trucks and the heavier trucks.

nice eye Randy. I could be wrong but the little three bolt cover below and left of the yolk is also a givaway for a 205?

I just went to the shop to take some more pics and another look at the case The shift linkage is homebrew, the 3 bolt cover isnt there, so im still thinking its A 200. Does the mounting look stock for A 715? I also noticed the hand break was painted white, like the whole rig, at some point it was A fire truck. The radio handles and hour meter must of come from there

    Heres A couple more pics

That is an NP200. You can tell by the casting bosses on the sides where the stock bracketry mounts. The 205 has the mounts cast on top.
