    Default Winch Parts Missing

I'm getting ready to pull the winch apart and bead blast it, then put in some new seals and parts. I was just wondering what the round bar that runs under the drum looks like, since someone has cut mine off. I went to VPW today and got the other parts I needed but all they have for the bar is a big piece of all-thread....Is that it, or is it smooth with threaded ends?

Smooth ,with threaded ends. Also the M715 has two angles for the top spacer, whereas the M37 has a plate with four holes. [I]Snake River 4x4[I] has winch parts.

Thanks, I'll give them a call. I'm going to pull it apart today.

If they are supplying just threaded rod, sounds like they are out of the original style with the threaded ends only.

This is what I made for the top, notice the rear one is original.

I could make these sell them to zoners cheap if there is enough interest.

Yes, I asked if they had anything...used or new and that was it, I think a visit to the machine shop down the road will be coming. For the top I might just use the M37 style plate just because it would make a nice step to stand on.

For something quick and dirty, you may want a piece of all-thread with a piece of pipe covering it. That would look better than just all thread. Or, advertise in the "Wanted" section. That piece won't be really needed until you actually start to use the winch, so you have time to find one. But if you have a good machine shop, no doubt they could cut threads on a piece of round bar stock...

Does someone know the diameter, length and/or have a good picture of that bar? Thanks.

If you can wait until daylight today, I can take a picture etc. I have the winch off of my truck (well actually, it hasn't been on MY truck yet). I will be back later today...

That would work great, thanks. I will be tearing it down and bead blasting the housing today, might even try to get some primer on it.

We have a page with lots of pics from a member who rebuilt his winch and documented it...the page is here:
