    Default M715 Transmission Issues

    Allright, here goes:

Bought a 1967 M715 and the gear shift lever was removed.

I replaced the shifter with the way I thought it should reinstall. Doesn't seem to work right.

The trans and motor are still installed in the complete truck.

How do I figure out what gear this thing is in? Or is there another way to go about this?

Will it be necessary to remove the top of the transmission for anything?

Is there a TM section that covers this that someone could refer me to, for this, as well?

I took the truck out for a drive, couldn't get reverse, and it felt like it was always in one gear only, (3rd gear). All this made it feel like the clutch wouldn't work, too, or something.

Anyone have any ideas for me? Much help appreciated!

There is a TM section. It is at the top of the page and called online maintenance manuals. The -24 and -34 should get you going.

Fast version is that you need to pull the shifter back off. Look down into the transmission. You should see 3 grooves lined up from left to right. If they aren't, use a large screwdriver and push them so they are lined up.

Next, look at the end of your shifter. It should have a part that will fit in those grooves. Is it pretty tight, or just flopping around? I have had truck shifters where the end of the shifter broke and gear shifting no matter where the stick was didn't happen. Pictures always help us help you from a distance too.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.
