    Default NOS Battery Box Bottom

Today, I received an NOS battery box bottom from Vintage Power Wagons. It was $60.00 but was truly NOS. They have reproduction tops but I think I can make my top work. I was about to rework a top and make it a bottom. But for $60.00, the labor would be not worth it. As you know, the bottoms are almost always rotted away.

The one that I got from VPW was slightly damaged by UPS due to somewhat thin packing materiel. I was able to fix it but as usual, UPS will damage stuff if it is not packed super well.

Just a heads up! Hope this forum is the appropriate one to post this info in...

Good to know. I'll be replacing mine with a mid seat for one of the youngins..

I don't think that it's rusted. I'll have to check.

    Good find.

Finding a battery box bottom that is not rusted is rare. Mine isn't that bad. I cleaned it up, and cut a piece of thin plywood to fit into box. That made a nice bottom for my two new Interstates to sit on. Been that way for about 3 years now, and it works fine.

I even bought some pieces of "U" shaped channel to weld inside of a top that I have. But when I called them and they said that they were NOS, that trumped all of the labor that would be involved. It is now installed and looks OK. I still need to fabricate some kind of battery hold-down that will keep the #65 size batteries in place. I don't want all-thread because it looks home made. I may find some steel rod cut threads on one end and put a "J" on the other end...
