Default Leaking Around Oil Filter? Has anyone experienced this before?

Hello All, I am new to the M725 world and have a dilema. A lot of the fires I have been putting out lately are operator error. I won't go into those now, but I'm having a problem with either: The Oil filter spins loose and the oil leaks out creating a gulf of mexico effect 'or' the rubber seal in the filter blows out due to too much pressure at start up?

I'm thinking the second one now, because it seems to happen when I first start it up cold. Maybe I should let it idle for a little bit to get everything flowing better. I don't like to drive it now because it leaves a slick behind me or in the driveway. Has anyone had this happen before???

BTW it is a stock 230 engine in a 1967 M725 with 16,555 or so on it. I replaced the oil filter tonight with a Fram PH8A as suggested in another thread on here. I originally had an Oriellys thing on it. They looked the same, so we will see what happens. I have changed tons of oil filters and never had this happen before. It's starting to worry me about the other ones now lol.
Thanks for any help and suggestions!!!!! -Bobby

Wix is your best bet for a good filter.

Exploding, flying off and seal blowing oil filters have been reported before. I just don't remember the cause or cure. I am off at a conference and can't cut and paste on my phone. So I can only tell you to try the search function.

I do remember that a member named maddog in Virginia. Had the same
problem with his 725. Did you truck come from there with a forest service green paint?
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

Thanks for the info, I tried to do a search, but i didn't find anything. Theres more to the oil pump working than i thought for. That is definately the problem then, I'll probably get a new relief vale that goes inside the pump like they mentioned in the other thread. So being able to take the oil pump out and not messing with its orientation and putting it back end won't be enough. There's quite a few more steps, well you all have been great helping again, Thanks alot!!!

And the truck came from a local hospital Barrman, its bright yellow! I get some looks lol Thanks! -Bobby

Sounds like the relief valve inside the oil pump is just stuck. Disassemble, clean and check its fit in the bore for smooth operation. Finding a replacement valve by itself at a parts store won't happen. You would need the oil pump assembly. Someone on this site might donate/sell a used oil pump if you need one.

Ok I'll try that out. I just need to find sometime to do it. It doesn't explode everytime. Just when I rev it a little at start up sometimes. Thanks!

One reason, most likely no help to you, that the filer is spraying oil is that when the filter is chaned, the rubber base gaske stuck to the motor and then the new filter went on...now there are 2 on there...this WILL leak.
