Thread: air cleaner paint question

  1. #1

    Default air cleaner paint question

brought my air cleaner to work to glass bead and paint, as I began to glass bead it, I realized that the dome cap on the snorkel of the aircleaner was OD under the black so I am wondering if it suppose to be green or black like the rest of the aircleaner?

I've seen both colors for the cap, but believe that Olive Drab is more correct. The rationale is this: Since this same cap is used on top of the snorkel tube, a semigloss black cap would stand out, not the subdued paint that the military usually uses on the exterior of vehicles. As an aside, this same "precleaner" cap is used on the M38A1's.

My best guess on the decal:

Attach to inlet of air cleaner for regular operation. Transfer pre cleaner and clamp to top end of inlet tube for fording water operation.

    one source of the decal:
