    Default gov

Does anyone have a pic of the governor? Not sure what it looks like and would like to take off my stock truck. Thanks

The governor is sandwiched between the carb and the intake...remove the carb and its the other big thing on the studs to remove.

To take it off permanently, you need to change out the really long studs that are needed with the governor to short ones for the carb only.

This image from the manuals shows the governor as item #7:

Been about 10 years since I did it but when I finally got fed up with the gov I just pulled the set pin (or screw) and removed the valve (round metal thing) and left the gov body right there. Figured I could replace it some day if I went full resto. Instead I went the restomod route & ditched the entire motor
If I remember right it was only a few minutes and a HUGE difference.

It doesnt affect smoothness...it simply restricts how much air/fuel can enter the motor and therefore limits top speed.

I dont know the exact specs on the studs you need...bolt wont work...but if you pull the old ones out, you need the thread that is in the manifold already...by setting the carb on the intake with no studs, you can measure from the intake through the carb flange and gaskets and add enough for the nuts...should be pretty easy...

Actually its a velocity governor which does nothing (if its working correctly) until the velocity of the air moving through it reaches a set point, (60 mph is the factory setting) then it begins to move closed, as air velocity falls a spring pulls it back open, that spring is what keeps it in the open position. The m-37 utilized one also although it was rebuildable and adjustable, the 715 unit is a throwaway not rebuildable, or adjustable.
