Thread: What is the purpose of manual locking hubs?

    One thing also when you swap the hubs for Selectros. Be sure to remove the studs and replace them with bolts. If not, you'll remove skin from your knuckles each time you engage/disengage them. I think the bolts were 3/8" fine thread if I remember correctly. I also recall them being an odd length that I had to buy a slightly longer bolt and then trim it down a bit.

    I just replaced all the studs with new studs of the proper length. No skin off my knuckles here. You can't reuse the old studs because the short ones are 2 short and the long ones are well too long.

    I put on Selectros without changing any studs...used spacers on the long ones but the short ones were fine.

    I do remember that the washers on the short studs had to have one side ground flat to fit between the stud and the hub.

    I do agree that the bolts are much better in the long run that the studs...less to worry about and less to damage (in this case, to the person) with bolts...unless you want to make a tool like Gimpy has for turning the hubs:
