Have a possible running rig I can grab for a future drivetrain swap. Its a 95GMC 2500 2wd 6.5 turbo diesel mated to a 4l80E. The truck has dual batteries but does anyone know if this is a 12v or 24v electrical system? What would be needed to swap this into a 67M715 and pros/cons of this setup. I know motor mounts and cooling but what about wiring is the thing I would be lost on. Thanks Jeff
That truck is 12 volts. The dual batteries are there for the extra amperage needed to crank the diesel and light the glow plugs.
As far as the swap, its pretty much a bolt in affair, but things like exhaust are going to take some fabrication. If I remember correctly, the turbo also poses some clearance issues on the 6.5. Just have the entire donor truck next to your M715 when you begin and you can get everything you will need to do the swap as you go. You will either need the computer and harness from the donor truck, or you will need to switch out the valve body in the 4L80e. I am not certain about the engine, but I do believe depending on the year, they have a limited function computer on the 6.5.
