I can get a 4L80E 2wd auto. I think this is dimensionally the same as a th400.

Is it possible to change out the rear of the tranny and add an adaptor for a married 205?

Probably, somehow.

Those also require the computer to go with them, or a pricey standalone.

If not the actual computer, at least one of the Painless "kits" that do the same thing. Either way, it is a big added expense.

Could always go the divorced 205 route.

I think Art Carr makes a manual valve body for the 4L80E which would eliminate the need for a computer. However the shifts will be harsh, such as barking the tires. May not be a big deal for a trail only or limited street travel truck. Art Carr is a racing transmission dealer like TCI, etc.

I"m looking at Art Carr's website right now. The valve body kit DOES NOT eliminate the computer.

Not too worried about the computer. If I use the tranny it will be connected to the 5.7 vortec which it came with. Already have the computer and harness for it. Just need to decide how to hook up the transfer case, divorced or married.

A stand-alone computer is $500-600. The tranny has overdrive which makes it more desirable than a th400 for on-road use. Anyway, I am just investigating the possibilities. Nothing is for certain.

Kwai, either they came w/32spl or they can be retrofit. I would think that the adapter issue is not that big a deal. I would think it's a th400 pattern, so stuff SHOULD bolt up.

maybe check AA's website. I'm too lazy.

you can use this trans if you use the round pattern t-case. I have bought the factory 4l80 adaptors off ebay. Similar to the 400, but I think the index is a little different size. I am not 100% sure, but I think i would try the adaptor on the trans before I worried about changing the shaft. It might be ok.

Good point!

I forgot, sometimes the short shaft stuff is the right length for t-cases.
