    Power steering/brakes of J-Series
Post by foreverunstopable on Sept 25, 2006, 9:02pm

Same guy that has the RV has 3 Jeep J-series hes getting rid of also. Two have a 360 one has a 401. What do I need to pull off the Jeep to set-up power steering and power brakes? Everything seems to be there on all of them so I have my pick apparently.

    Personally I would pull:

    The steering gear box
    The steering column
    The steering shaft
    The power steering pump
    The Hoses
You won't be able to use the bracketry, but if you're running a 304/360/401 it will swap just fine. If you need pics of the mounting let me know I have some old 360 mounting/pulley config shots.
Don't forget the pedal assembly, the firewall bracket, and booster/MC assembly.

Not sure what the break/year was, but some J-trucks had a larger dual diaphragm booster, if there are two sizes, get the bigger booster.

Also if it's a freebie, GET that 401, they are becoming harder and harder to find, you should be able to part out a 401 for some decent change, even if it is just a donor block.

To install the J-10 power steering in my 725, I bolted the box in, (direct fit - including pitman) and changed the fittings on the back of the Chevy pump to match the Jeep hoses. Same pump, different fittings. The short shaft from the pump bolted up to the rag joint on the 725. No probs.

Get the 401 and don't look back!!! If ya like slushboxes, (like I do), the 401/TH400/QT swap can't be beat!

uh, yes it can. Pretty much anything other than the Quadratrac automatically wins by default LOL

I'd run that Jeep stuff but swap the output shaft for a 32spl GM deal and then you can run a 203, 205, 208, or 241..... all of which are more better than the !@#(&#~ POS Quadratrac.

There are two kinds of Quadratrac owners: those who have had problms, and those who will.

    heheh. How's it going, Ethan?

QT's doing just fine! The rest of the truck could use some work, but the QT is fine. If you want to drop off any of thos POS QT's on your way through, I'll be glad to lighten the load in your truck.

(How'd you know I was reading this thread????)
