looking for junk yard heater for 715.....
    Post by aaron871 on Oct 19, 2006, 10:42am

Is there an OEM heater I can pull out of a Ford, Chebby, Dodge, ect. That will easily fit in my 715? (read=CHEAP)

I don't have much room left in the engine bay. So I was thinking of setting it on the floor in-between the seats....

The stock heater from a J series Jeep truck or a Wagoneer or Cherokee, the full size types, work in the stock truck. If you have mods under the hood, maybe not but the locations and holes to mount the setup were all there when the trucks were built...

Try and find a FSJ that had the cables instead of vacuum controls. Then get the cables from the donor vehicle too.

    a little extra info:

    M-715 cab and chassis.
Between the Buick 455, all the accessories, and dual red tops under the hood, the engine bay is full. It's obviously converted to 12v.

I want a simple 12v fan driven heating unit that will use the heater hose. There is no room on the engine side of the firewall.

This is a trail only rig on rockewlls...

Hope this info can help you help me.

    Thanks.

This is a cheap setup that you could bolt under dash pretty easy...has the heater core and fan in it...hooking up defrost may be tough though....need a diverter box of some kind...

Many fullsized vans had a small self enclosed heater in the rear of the cabin. They work almost too good and I think you can find one at the junk yard. I've seen them in the rear of some suburbans too. They are basically just a box with a heater core and a 12v fan. Usually, they're mounted on the floor just behind the sliding side door.

The old van auxilliary heater...great idea!! Yeah one of them would work well....sometimes they are in the middle of the full size vans, on the side, or they can be in the rear...

Why didnt I think of that...I have used them in vans for years...DOH!!
