Got a loooooooooong way to go, eh?!

Most of the boards that are long enough to do 87" in one piece are pretty badly warped. So I'm probably going to have to do quite a few finger-splices. My woodworking neighbor (another Tim) assures me they will be stronger than plain wood. Adhesives have come a long way since 1967.

Tim tells me he ordered a new finger-joiner that was backordered, so I'll bring over my best long board and maybe run it through the process. I'll post pics later.

Got a question for you stock slat guys.... Where do the splices appear? Just randomly along the length of the boards?

Tim, my troop seats have only one splice on the very top board in the middle where the center support is. Have fun. Fisherman

Mine have splice almost centered....the splice falls on the center troop seat support but, on the side that I have 2 splices, one is at the front part of the support and one is at the rear of it...the difference in the side parting line between them is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches...

The one I have on the other troop seat also falls off center of the center support by the same amount...if you want a pic, let me know.

Thanks, guys.... No, no pics necessary. Most of those short boards are 44" or more, so I *should* be okay. Using modern exterior adhesives, it won't matter, strength-wise, where the splice falls, but I'd like to make them as close to "original" as I can. Of course, "original" didn't have too many nail holes either....

    I'll keep you posted.
