body mounts, what are you guys using?
    Post by bluesman2a on May 22, 2006, 9:53am

In the course of doing my x-member I have found a need to install a 1" body lift for additional clearance without (further) hacking the cab.

I currently HAVE a body mount kit from an FSJ, but they have a collar that's not really accounted for on our trucks. See pic below:

If I can, I'd like to use what I have, as it gives me the height AND what I need for new mounts. But if there is a better option out there, I'm all ears, somebody please clue me in.

Another member swears by boat trailer rollers. They already have a hole in the middle and you just cut them to the size you want. He claims they are more pliable than the pucks and therefore don't crack as easily. Either item will work for you.

I used rubber mount for fiberglass jeep boddies from 4WD parts. about 24" long. Used a table saw to cut into 1" pieces. worked great.

Just a quick follow-up, went up to the local boat-shop and picked up my new body-lift and cut them in the band-saw... entire body lift with poly pucks: $10.00.

    part #38-507-278-00 $9.99

This also has the added benefit of losing those anemic body bolts and stepping up to a beefier 1/2" bolt.

FYI, I had a chance to do the basic assembly on my new "body lift" today and it went super-smooth. The new 1/2" bolts need no additional clearance on the tub or frame, they just drop right in!

It was a DARNED good thing I checked this, cause those already anemic bolts in the back were almost corroded through!

John, if you'd like I can pull together a list of parts/pucks for the final assembly for others who are interested, maybe add to an FAQ?

    also forgot to ask:
Anybody know where I can find NOS or servicable springs for the rear cab mounts? Mine are about shot and I'd like to replace them... What are they officially called?

Love to have the list Sir....that would be great info!!

    The springs are listed as:

FSN: 2510-456-9151 SPRING, BODY HOLDDOWN NO.2 REFERENCE NO. 11657962

The reason it is called NO.2 is that the front mount at the radiator area has a spring and that one is NO.1....

I dont know who has them off hand...sorry...let us know if you find though...
