Engine Vent lines

So I'm in the process of installing a 2-barrel Holley carb. I don't have the deep water fording kit, and I don't plan on doing much deep water fording. So I was wondering if I could run all the vent lines to a seperate air breather box in the engine compartment, instead of drilling into my new air filter. I was also wondering about the tube that vents the oil pan (not the tube running from the valve cover to the intake), does this have to be ran into the air cleaner, or could it also just go to a box or breather junction of some sort? Basically I'm wondering if I HAVE to drill holes in my new air cleaner to run all my vent lines. Thanks.
