    Question Machine work

Does anyone know a baseline price tag for honing a V8 block and heads?

That is basically a labor thing so it varies from shop to shop - call around. But if you are just honing the block you can get the tool to run off a big drill and do it at home. You can usually rent them at Autozone or such.

If I remember correctly my dads shop has a set up fee of 20 bucks if I remember correctly and 6 bucks a cylinder but that was about 10 years ago I did any machine work... It cost me 90 bucks to do a line hone for the crank a few months ago on a small block but thats as far as I got on the small block before I dumbed it for a big block.

i have to say i don't know all that much about it but i'm guessing you're talking about more than just a hone? I only guess that since you talk about heads, too -- are you thinking of porting, performance upgrades, etc? or are you just replacing the rings and maybe stock pistons?
