    Default Need some advice ....

I am about to pick up my M715.
It is has to run since a long time.I have some questions for you guys :

    1) the generator is missing will one from a M37 fits ?
    2) same goes for the belts what size are they (the belts)
    3) I am almost sure the tank will have rust/old fuels can I run a external tank just to start the engine ? Do I have also to bypass the pump ?
    4) what size batteries are required ?

Apologies for the lot of questions

The generator will bolt right in. The belts for the M37 were really fat compared to the M715 belts if I remember correctly. It doesn't matter since the M37 had a generator and the M715 has an alternator. Get the alternator off the M35 parked behind the M715. It will bolt right up with the correct size front pulley. Well, correct for the belt size but only 2 grooves. The M715 had 3 grooves for the alternator.

The fuel can mount should be on the drivers side. Not much effort is needed to run a line from it to the fuel line on the frame basically right next to it. It is very easy and often times done.

Any pair of batteries you have that add up to 24V is all you need for starting.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

This is what people have used for belts:

From ChalkOutine on what info is on the Napa belts he bought:

    That # is 7417
other letters and #'s on the package....

    XL
    Belt/Courroie/Correa
    25
    7417

    Another member, jdobyns, posted:

I found that NAPA number 7425 work pretty well....and are not as tight to get on.

And another member, adk4x4 said about that:

I got the same ones and they work perfect for me. The alt is about mid way on the adjustment bar. They were napa deluxe xl's 7425.

Typical problems for first start-up will be:
coil (the same coil is used for m38a1, m151, m715, m37)
fuel pump (modern fuels tends to eat up the rubber in the old fuel pumps)
carb (might be fouled from sitting for a long time and need to be cleaned good).

The fuel tank has a drain plug in the bottom. Pull the plug to drain the old fuel out and put fresh fuel in. You can check for crap in the fuel when you drain it.

Not to mention any water that might be in there will be on the bottom so it will drain first...

I would check/replace all the drivetrain fluids while your at it. Water seems to get in everywhere over time and its easy todo since the diffs and tranny, xfer all have drain plugs
